 For some time, Donna and I had been praying and seeking God for His will and direction in our lives. The focus of our prayers was a desire to work together and share together every precious moment God has granted during this very unique time upon the earth. We started out buying a substantial amount of wood working equipment. We began by making all kinds of odds and ends - things like tables, furniture, picture frames, lamps, and a variety of treasures constructed of wood. Things , however, progressed along slowly and awkwardly. Somehow, it seemed, we just couldn't catch the flow and direction we had been seeking from God. And then, in January of 2004, we experienced a disaster that caused us to question both the direction of our lives and God's involvement in that direction! The wood shop we had been working so hard to build caught fire and burnt , nearly to the ground, on a cold snowy January day. It took our local fire department 6 hours , 3 fire trucks, and several tankers full of water and chemicals to get the blaze under control. We lost nearly the entire contents of our shop - everything from major power tools for professional woodworking, small power tools (routers, grinders, etc.), an array of hardware and miscellaneous parts accumulated over decades, as well as completed product. Having extended ourselves to the limit, in both human energy and financial resources, to build our shop, it appeared everything we had worked for was lost. To compound our loss, because we did not have the means to provide insurance on our shop at the time, we were forced to absorb the full brunt of our loss. Well, if ever anyone has experienced God's Beauty for Ashes in their lives it surely must be us (by the way, we named our business Beauty for Ashes several years before the fire, be careful what you ask for). One dramatic blessing from God has led to another and we have ended up right "here" on the sweetest and most fulfilling adventure of our lives! Where is "here"you ask? Well, let me share with you what we do and how we do it - We buy raw wood straight from our supplier who buys the raw timber, cuts it, kiln dry's it, and brings it to us. We get every type of wood imaginable from lumber that is grown and milled right here in the U.S. of A. to several exotic types of wood grown throughout the world (view a list of them in the products section of our web site). After we purchase the wood we plane it, cut it to the shape and size desired, router the edges, and finish it. Last but not least, together we create our own artwork, of which we earnestly seek God's inspiration and involvement in continually. And finally, these breathtaking woods are engraved with our laser to bring to our customers quality products to warm their hearts and homes. We appreciate you taking time to read our history and learn a little of what we are about.
